Oh, none of that was directed at you personally bro, I was just sayin'...
It's all good.
Even if it was, I'm okay with it. I just have to go through my wife to get stuff...it's her money too. Plus she likes to match what I spend and we haven't won the lottery yet. But after a year, she now knows a basic Harley is just a starter kit. And she finally saw my face when I got my bars. The other mods she didn't.
I hear what you're saying but I'd still like to ride on one first. And while I may never get these shocks, I'd still like to feel the difference...not read about it.
As for money...the most expensive thing on my bike are my pipes.
Your approach is wise, but to be honest, the comfort in ride difference is big only when A - you improve the front as well , B - Ride with nothing more than 1" dropped.
What is really amazing, is to try to lower your bike 2" with bolts (which I did) and ride a barebones (my seat) and be 'jarred' ..really 'jarred'.. then you Add 422s (which I did) , Ride 1"3/4 down and ride..'Rough' but Tolerable., Now , I ride 3" down almost and the ride quality is better than 1"3/4 low 422 and WAY better ..actually no comparison to the bolts situation.. and that is3" down, I mean I rock the town.
Then when I go on long ride, 30 second of buffing and Buzzing, and I ride silky smooth (although you have to retrain your reflexes to not feel bumbs ).
Like I said, my biggest concern was reliability over storage and it did fair well this winter.
Hey Chicken on a chain, if you ever get up this way I will swap out bikes with you and go riding together. I know the Chicago area is a long haul but the offer stands just the same.

As for Money, you can soften the 'shock' (pun intended) by watching the softail parts section in the classifieds..
Every year people migrate to FLH bikes, yank the SS and sell it separately. you get it shipped under 900$ and if you spend a few more, JD will refresh it for you before you install (specially if you live in the US and enjoy over night mail and **** we do not get in Canada ).
So, Yes, it is expensive, but to be honest I can not imagine my bike tail that high ever again .
I tried lowering bolts to get the "look", But the ride suffered greatly.
I bought the SS on sale through JD's HD Forum special. Am very pleased.
Now I've got the "look" and the Suspension.
yah stay away from lowering kits...it really does mess with ride...for years i had a set of whites on my RK.....then later bought e/glide....i thought i had suddenly became a better rider....nope it was just back to riding a stock bike without that lowering kit.. made a ton of difference...

Just look at her
i will keep an eye for your scooter....if we cya on the road...
We purchased our SS for the ride NOT the looks. A Heritage slammed just does not look right IMHO.
With the boss on the back we just add a little more air and when she is off I dump some of the air and adjust the ride, magic carpet time.... OH YEAH.....

Those are my findings as well.
I tend to ride right around stock height at all times.
Anything more than a 1" drop from stock and the front suspension will just beat the hell outta me.
The SS just seemed to amplify just how bad the stock shocks were.
I see either Progressives or Ricors in my very near future...
I also have to be honest in saying that the 1st summer I rode on it I was doing it all wrong until JD schooled me on it and the proper way to adjust it.
Same here...
I'm a new owner of the system. I recently posted in the air ride thread that I might have a leak. I called JD to talk about about it. It was my setting the compression once and then playing with the rebound, adding and dumping to that side only. This adding and dumping rebound affects compression. Who knew? Once schooled I found the system to work great.
Also- Great looking bike klf33
