Ok. Research appears complete. In 07 on the short staggered exhaust the crossover pipe attaches to the head pipe and not the muffler. This is different than in 06
Anyone know if the 07 and up shorty exhaust will fit onto the 06 frame?? All exhaust mufflers are cheaper AND the 07 has O2 bungs already installed so I can get a auto tuner installed as well
That's just it. The year break is 06 for the mufflers. It is like 00 to 06 then 07 on up. The head pipes and crossover are different. Trying to find out if I can swap the whole system to one from 07 do then I can get different slip ons
What kind of bike do you have? Also what exhaust are you talking about? You mention short staggered exhaust but that could mean a number of different things to different people.
I have an 06 heritage with EFI. I like the look of the dual shorties. Don't like the look of the shotgun exhaust systems. Would like to bolt up a full 07 heritage classic system as the slip on choices are much more vast due to the way the crossover tube attaches. On 07 and above it is in the head pipe. In 06 and before it is in the muffler thus making parts more difficult to find. Additionally the 07 has oxygen sensors in the pipe so I can then use a thundermsx auto tuner.
If my research is correct the 07 also doesn't have cats in the head pipe like the 08 and later so I don't have to do surgery to remove the cats
I belive you can put a 07 head pipe on a 06 heritage. Most of the time they are listed as incompatible because they have O2 ports but those can be plugged. If you look at some of the aftermarket exhaust companies they will list heritage exhaust systems as fitting 2000-2011 model years.

So, for awhile I was running a set of V&H exhaust from a 2000 Nighttrain on my 2010 FatBoy Lo.. The heads will line up to the motor just fine, the only difference is if you have a wide rear tire vs not a wire rear tire. I had to install some washers to use as a spacer to get the pipes to line up right and clear the frame (really only about 1/8" though).
