I'll say it again; it's not whether or not you get what you pay for, the question is do you really need what you're paying for?
In my opinion most people don't need the Shockgun shock, that's not to say it's not the best shock out there.

Wow, lots of good info, including the point from Bluraven. The price is pretty steep, and the local HD shop suggested the progressives with the hand adjuster. I'd like the shotgun if I can swing it though. The stability when you need it sounds like a good thing.
Thanks all!

When I decided to get my SS I thought about the cost of getting a new seat for the added comfort in relation to the cost of the shock. A good seat is about a 3rd the cost of the shock, but then I would have to change my springer seat for longer rides and that's not quick. I also thought about needing to adjust the bike shocks for 2 up (or packing bags on the bike)with a wrench or 10 seconds it takes with the switches as part of the SS. In the end I felt that I would ultimately spend more money and time if I didn't get the SS.

This past weekend I was riding some twisties and was scraping the boards a little more than I like.. I just pumped up the rear of the bike as I road and that solved that. There are multiple reasons for a air ride system that can be changed on the fly.

Again, though this has been addressed God knows how many times, there are new people coming here everyday, every week. So, if they are new here then they do not know what has or has not been discussed here. They are new so they don't even know what to search for! I always notice that those who complain here about this topic are those who do not have one, for whatever reason! That does not mean though that a person should berate anyone asking about it because they themselves don't have one.

If the subject tires you, bothers you or in some cases even makes a person angered, why then do you keep reading the threads? Just skip right over them, problem solved. I have caught allot of grief in the past 2 years for posts related to this subject and now nearly every single one of those people who did so now has the SS on their bikes and every single one of them are happy. I have SO MUCH MONEY in this bike and NONE of it did I HAVE to spend.........and..........still going strong! Give the new people here a break.

I would NEVER greet a new or strange person at my front door like that, why do it here? It sets a bad tone for any new person coming here and it shouldn't be like that. This is a place to learn, get advice, share, exchange and to look for and to try new things. Stop being a hater and get on board or leave it alone. I don't get tired of the same questions by new people. I get tired of the same old response from the same old people!

We're not talking about bikes, we are talking about shocks.
My comment was aimed at that most don't need to spend $1250 to get a good ride.

For some reason every time someone questions whether or not it's a good idea to purchase a shotgun shock "some" of those who have already pulled the trigger and bought it seem to get defensive about it.

I just don't understand why people just won't stick to the question at hand instead of trying to convince those who have not done so to purchase a Shotgun Shock.

By all accounts the Shockgun Shock seems to be a fantastic product and JD has proven to provide fantastic service, however that is not what Wrabbit was asking.

Wrabbit stated that he already has read the positive reviews on Shotgun Shocks and was asking "is anything else out there that is equally as good, but perhaps less expensive".

All replies should be either "no" or "yes/maybe" (followed by a product name and comment).

I may very well be buying the SS myself, but is the sales pitch really needed for it every time someone ask about suspension upgrades?

Do you NEED a motorcycle?

I rest my case.

I should have read the whole thread before responding. HA! But I agree with JAM. We don't NEED bikes (most of us) but continue to dump money in them because we CHOOSE too.

But if Wrabbit stated that he already has read the positive reviews on Shotgun Shocks and was asking "is anything else out there that is equally as good, but perhaps less expensive".

The answer is NO, there is not an option that is equally as good as the Shotgun that is less expensive.

Before getting mine, ($1500 total at the time) I read every thread about the Shotgun system.
Saw where many made the mistake of going with a Progressive setup or lowering kits and then later bought a Shotgun. They stated they wish they had saved their money for the Shotgun they ended up with instead.

I bypassed wasting money on a purchase in between stock and Shotgun.

Honestly, I haven't had a positive experience with the product so far, but JD has been more than perfect helping me out here and I'm grateful for that after seeing threads with people blowing up at companies like Samson for providing **** customer service.

I've had JD call me back on a Sunday afternoon when I first started having issues after installing the first shock. Most places aren't even available on the weekends and he's calling me back on a Sunday. I understand there's issues and I'm being as patient as possible on my end. I'll be installing my third shock Friday night and I'm hoping that this one works.
