hi
shocks fail, and I want to buy new
ride one
which will advise on replacement stock?
I want the most soft and comfortable, but with a standard height seat
price to $ 300
thanks
Depending on how much you weigh 422's could be softer then stock. I'd say if you weigh ~200+ they will be softer. Less then that they give a nice, sport, compliant ride but I would not call it soft. SS definitely can be adjusted as soft as you like but multiply your $300 times 4.

PashaFatBoy, sadly with the $300.00 budget you want to go with your choices are very limited. I am not saying you can't buy another shock set up but I will tell you that with what you will get with that budget, your weight, that what you would get would probably be so minuscule that I don't know that it would even be worth messing with.
An air shock is really the only way to go but again that will be hard to do on that budget. I will say, any I am sure most will agree, it is an investment that you will enjoy every single time you get on your bike and go down the road on. I have the SS and it is worth every single penny I/We paid for it. I would never own anything but a Softail and I would never own another Softail without the SS on it.
It addresses appearance, comfort and safety all in that one mod. There is literally nothing on my bike that has not been touched, changed, upgraded or modified and this SS is the best out of all of the mods done to my bike and that is a huge statement considering all that has been done to it. You will also find out that JD, the owner, that his warranty and customer service is unmatched as well. I doubt you will ask or find that the same isn't true with anyone here who has gone down that path with their bikes too. Good luck and keep us posted on what you do or what you decide to do with your bike.
Those shocks are similar to your shocks as they are not lowered 1". The shocks in the link are for deluxes, FB lo's that are lowered one 1" and will raise the bike up 1" like our FB's.
Another option could be a better seat. I have 2 seats, one is the hd sundowner. A seat like the Sundowner is A LOT more comfortable then the stock FB seat and does not cost much more then $300. Dealerships let you try them for free, at least in the US they do.
As noted, these are the stock shocks on most softails... not much softer, just more travel.
There are some Progressive 422s in the Classifieds for around $300, check them out.
