Default Windshield help

I just installed the standard size windshield on my 06 deluxe and I heard that the person should be looking over the shield. Well in my case, being short I am looking thru the windshield and it just seems akward. Is this a normal thing? I am thinking about trading it in for the low profile but I am afraid the top of the windshield would be at eye level and mess with my vision. Any opinions?

Over or under would be ok but looking eye level at the lip would be distracting.

My choices...

1. Go for the low profile. It might work.
2. Cut the standard size down to fit you. It will work then.
3. (combo 1 and 2) Swap for the low profile. If it is still too high, cut it down. It will work for you then.

Point to consider when cutting: The standard size seems to be less expensive than the low profile models. If you are going to cut, I'd cut on the full size and save the dough.

It's personal preference really. You'd get used to looking through it, I'm sure, but if you CAN'T see over it and you get caught in the rain...could get ugly! I have the low profile shield and can look over it if I'm sitting up straight. I'm a sloucher though, so I tend to look through it more than over it.

If you dont like looking thru it . cut it and look over it. You just dont want the top of the shield to be at eye level cause it will drive you crazy. I just recently cut my shield down and I am real happy now cause for the past couple of years the top of the shield was at eye level .

if you cut the sheild , I used a Bosch jig saw blade 20 tooth. blade is made for smooth cuts on both side of cut. It cut the shield unbelievabley smooth. [8D]

I cut mine down last weekend, took five inches off the top and kept the same shape soI took quite a bit down the sides too. I love it, makesahuge difference. I used a jig saw then finsihed off with sandpaper. Ride around and figure out where the proper height is for you then cut it!

same as above -- rode it for a year looking thru it drove me up the wall - finally measured two inches off and taped then jigsaw - took 20 minutes and can't tell the diff from stock and I can see above it now. A little bit more wind, but I can see which is more important.

I originally had the low profile. I found myself slouching to get the full effect of it. Then I swapped it out with a buddies shield from his road king. Now it's too tall. I either have to sit tall to see over it or slouch to look through it. It messes with me in turns cuz i'm half looking through it half looking over it. I plan on taking the low profile and holding it to the standard and splitting the difference between the two and see how i like that.

I just got used to looking thru it and like the maximum wind protection. Few months ago I changed from a Sundowner to a Mustang seat. Drove me crazy cause it raised me up just enough to where I was looking right at the top. I found a replacement shield from Cee Baily that works with the HD nostalgic hardware. I ordered it with an extra 2 inch height and now it's perfect. BTW, their prices are cheaper than HD replacements and the shield is better quality. Just personal preferance.

I going to take a road trip this weekend and test it out. If I need to I will cut it down instead of spending the dough for a low profile. To cut down the windshield, all I need to do is tape it off and cut it with a jigsaw? Is there a certain tooth patern for the jigsaw blade?
