Default Fat Boy needs lowered

Okay, I have a question and decided to go to the experts (you guys!). I have a 2005 Fat Boy and want to lower the rear about 1". I bought a set of lowering bolts on this forum, but my Harley tech using a Progressive shock compressor, could not get my stock shocks apart. And I also noticed on the lowering bolts, that there was only 1 nut on each bolt. I am not sure how they adjust.

What is the best way to lower my bike the desired 1" or so?

Anyone?

Rick

Do a search for Dead Creek Cycles lowering collars. Easy to install and well worth it. You can lower it 1.5" or 2".

I had a hard time breaking the strut adjustment bolts the first time on my 2005 SE Fat Boy.
You will need to use a heat gun to loosen the loctite that is put on from the factory.
It doesn't make sense why HD uses such a strong loctite on an item that is suppose to be adjustable.
The first few times after I adjusted the rear shocks, I tightened the bolts without loctite and I still had a hard time breaking them loose the next time.
Now I just barely snug them. the nuts have never came loose b/t adjustments, if anything they seem to get tighter.

My 2005 SE Fat Boy came with the rear lowered approximately an inch. The same as the Deluxe. You can switch your shocks to Deluxe shocks and you will be an 1" lower in the rear.

If your Harley tech cant get your bolts loose then you need a new tech. From there just use lowering bolts like you have planned.

The bolts are difficult but they ALWAYS come off. After raising bike I used the longest wrench and 3lb hammer to loosen.

The two best ways of lowering your bike are either SS or 422's. Lots of info on both shocks on this forum. I used to have mine lowered ~1" but prefer the better ride and increased lean angle at stock height.

Tom,

Thanks for the info. I did not realize a Deluxe was lowered. Good info.

He removed the shocks from the bike, but the Progressive shock compressor would not open enough to completely remove the stock shock rod.
