Well something is blocking the oil. I put my old oil cap back on and started it and the oil didnt blow the cap off but when I shut it off and took cap off oil was at the very top ansd slowly starting to come out the top. Could it be the oil pump?
It not an oil pump, it is overfilled, that is the only way an oil tank overflows. Drain half of the oil and crank it up.

I'll bet Dan is correct...too much oil plus wet sump which makes you think the oil is low...
When I change my oil, I drain all the oil and filter, then I put two charts of oil and stArt the bike to let the oil level settle Dow a couple minutes, then shut it off, measure oil amount with dip stick, then top off oil tank to halfway point between add and full mark when hot...
Good thing is it is easy to fix. ride safe.
Im will deain a bit of oil and try again...man I hope your right cause I really dont want to have to tear into my bike now.
Thanks for the advice

Mine blew the cap twice on the way home yesterday luckily I was close when it happened. My oil was all the way full when hot so hopefully it was just too over full but hadn't done it before. Is on add now so will top off to middle of stick and see if does it again. I did change the breather to an external breather recently so maybe that is part of the problem. I searched and most have said that being over full or breather is the issue. Hope I don't need to change the breather but if what fixes problem will change it.
