Default First start up this spring gone bad!!

Started the bike for first time this spring and oil blew the oil cap off and oil started pouring out. Thought maybe cap wasn't on so I tried it again and did the same thing. So I drained the oil out thinking it could have been overfilled and the correct amount of oil was drained....any ideas what it could be or better yet, where do I start troubleshooting this problem?

Thanks,
Doug

2007 softail standard. I got a fm 107 with woods 777 cams put in last spring. I rode one summer with it installed and everything was greak. so I didn't think that would have anything to do with it. it sat in my garage (not heated) for the winter...I changed the oil in it before the winter.

Maybe the two vents from the top of each rocker box to the air filter are blocked.

Well something is blocking the oil. I put my old oil cap back on and started it and the oil didnt blow the cap off but when I shut it off and took cap off oil was at the very top ansd slowly starting to come out the top. Could it be the oil pump?

Sounds more like something is blocking the air/gas - the crank case ventilation is blocked.

While not as common with twin-cams as it is with older bikes...sounds to me like it wet sumped...

Don't remember the details, but some time back a guy had one doing that and it had something to do with the check valve, or so the story went. Might try finding some info on that valve, don't know if they can stick, get some grit in them, or what could go wrong. Not an answer, just another possible thing to check out.

When its cold what's the oil level at? If u put 3 quarts in a wet bike it could be overfilled.
