why?
When I was younger yeah I was hacking them up but now a days not into it.
Or buy a used bike that has a lot of shiet on it already. Thats what I did.
I'm not trolling. Yes I did want to put grips and handlebars from another manufacturer (for comfort). I was advised against it by my dealer. H-D recommends H-D parts only. I don't claim to know very much about working on motorcycles (yet), but I have been riding motorcycles for 20 years, but this is my first Harley. I have always wanted one, but never felt I could afford one. Now that I finally got one, I just want to do the right thing. H-D riders are like a community with standards I suppose, so I don't want to do something trying to be slick, and end up insulting the community. That was my point. Everyone got all butt hurt like I was insulting their bikes. Why would I do that? I'm on this forum to learn. A few people have given some useful answers. I appreciate that.
Taller heritage bars are $50 and no need to change cables. Thats what I did. The $3000 worth of PM wheels and rotors on my bike cost just a little more then two tires after selling my stock wheels. Got lucky and found a deal locally, it happens. 422's shocks, Ricor Intimidators, Sundowner seat. CC solo seat... all used stuff for pennys on the dollar. If you take your time, search this forum and craigslist, you can custom a bike for a lot less then you think. Some can afford new. Others of us are happy with piecing a bike together over time with used stuff.

Why do some people put other things on their bike (paint, pipes, handlebars, etc.?) Doesn't that make the bike look ghetto? Won't you catch a beating if you pull up to the wrong 1% bar? Think about it...if H-D wanted that stuff on the bike, they would have made it that way. I suggest we all save our money and leave them the way they look and perform the best. STOCK!

No motorcycle comes "fitting" everyone. It might be the position of the bars, seat, foot pegs, grips, etc. Sometimes you have to modify it just to make it fit your body - if not your sense of aesthetics.
I suggest getting to know some Harley riders and observing for a awhile instead of assuming so much.
I do not know everyone on this board, and I am not going to speak for all of them, but I think its not a matter of folks getting butthurt but rather folks being irritated by your inane dreck and utter uselessness of your original post and subsequent contributions there after. One of the other members made the point in an earlier post- this whole thread adds nothing.
And for that matter, I am actually kinda annoyed that I have wasted this much effort on what, my 4th post to this thread (holy crap, AM I TROLLING?!?! I am thinking yes...but I digress). I just hate seeing folks making asses out of themselves when they could, if they just stopped just for a moment, and used their brains FIRST.
If you like your bike stock- FINE
If you want to rip it down to the axles and do a total custom job- FINE
Just don't make statements that add nothing and make you look like a dumbass. Just trying to help, just sayin.
However it's got to be said after reading through all this vitriol that if the OP stays stock
then unlike most on here he'll not only will have saved a fortune but should he trade the bike in the Dealer will no doubt give him more cos they love stock bikes.

It depends on the dealer and what has been done to the bike. Knowledgeable riders know they can get more from a private party anyway. And in that case, customization may command a slight premium.
