Road trip
I am purchasing a Slim here soon and was wondering how Softail's do on road trips? I currently live in North West Arkansas and my family lives in Alabama it is about a 9 hour drive by car.

You will be fine. I had an '08 Crossbones and drove it back from Sturgis 2 years ago to PA. Around 600 miles a day. No problems. I now have a '13 CVO Breakout and drove out to Milwaukee and back last year for the 110th. I drove 650 a day and felt like I could drive 200 more miles. I found prepping yourself before the trip works. By this I mean getting as much seat time before your trip. I also wore ear buds with music which helped the time go by. Have fun.

I just crossed the country on a Deuce. Windshield helped in bad weather. Had to make a rear bracket to hold all the luggage. Bike did fine. Just stop and get off when your butt starts to hurt. I always leave very early in the morning, even riding in the dark, and try to get miles under my belt early.

from Central Jersey, through York, PA, Gettysburg, PA, down through West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina down the Blue Ridge Parkway, down the Tail of the Dragon, Tennessee then reversed most of the trip in 6 days, 2,100 miles.. was fine.

Being your a Marine and have most likely ridden in Humvees, Mraps, LAV's, AAV's, cattle cars and helicopters the Softail will be a breeze. it could always be worse, you could be forced marching a pack for 9 hours
