Thank you all… Im feeling better and healing fast.

Now the bike is another issue… in the morning the dealer finally emailed an estimate… to repair it to its original shape…all stock… I called and asked why Stock…please add all the extras…after a few phone calls got a second estimate.

Well on friday the amount on the estimate was to high for the insurance (more that 70% of the bike value) so they will total it…but today the insurance guy checked a few things and the max amount that can be paid without the bike being total was increased… so I might get the max plus the bike and then determine where I want to get it fix.

Im gonna take my time… hopefully find a place that does a good job for less… I have another bike, a 1200 Sporster.. so I can ride while I decide to fix the Rocker or maybe get something else… but I really like the Rocker…

It just socks to put a lot of time on a bike…get it to the point that you like…then have an accident…that I still can understand why it happened..and then get screwed by the insurance.

I let you know about parts later… need to settle the insurance issue first… mine is red… don't know about the tank, but maybe to repaint it is less than to fix mine and repaint it.

You are right…Im glad that I'm OK…but my bike is a mess and now I'm debating on getting it fix or look for another one…

When the police showed up at the accident I keep telling the cop " look at my bike, please help me pick it up, I worked so hard to get it the way it was"… the cop said " don't worry about your bike…look at your arms.."

then later he said..usually HD owners are more worried about the bike… we invest so much time and $$$… on the bike that is "normal" to be concerned about it…. specially some really cool bike on this forum.

I know you loved your bike & had it just like you wanted it, but put it in proper context. It's just a bike, a machine made of metal & rubber. It can be replaced or repaired, not always the case with human bodies. Years from now this will be a distant memory, & you'll have another bike to get just the way you want it.
The important thing is you're OK.

YES…100% correct…. I was actually thinking the same this afternoon when I was at the park with my kids… I could have lost an arm, a leg or die… I bent the railing dividing the highway and the exit…wow.

Yes… I also had a cop behind me…so as soon as this happened he turn the lights on, closed the exit…then fire fighters and ambulance showed up a few minutes later and closed the highway to one lane… hospital was only 20 block away…

The cops said that he did not had his camera recording…he was not sure…but said if he did, it will be the perfect video of why always wear a helmet…hit the railing head-on, without the helmet, I'm pretty sure I will not be here or paralyzed.

So like you said… just a bike… that is why now I'm think about if it is worth all the time and $$$ that we put on this bikes…and if you get into an accident the insurance will not cover most of it.

but is fun to ride and be proud of your ride….

I was surprised at how little damage it took for the insurance company to total my first Rocker. Parts were expensive, and painting them properly involved sending them to the paint shop in Colorado which did the original painting for Harley.

There's one more option you might have: Buying it from the insurance company after they total it. My insurance company offered that, but they expected to get a pretty good price at auction (I guess people are willing to pay a lot because it's considered to be an outstanding platform for a custom), so it wasn't a super deal in my case. You'd also want to consider whether you'd end up with a "salvage title" by doing that.

In my case, the repair estimate was about 14K. They paid me about 15K to total it, and offered to sell it to me for about 8K. Maybe you can do better.

Get well, HDFan. Very glad it wasn't worse, but it definitely doesn't look easy either.

I hear ya on the jacket. Take your time picking one and I bet it won't turn out to be as sweaty as you think and you'll come to prefer it on the bike.
