I recently purchased my first HD (Breakout) while deployed through the overseas program Harley offers. Unfortunately I was medevac'd home so I haven't been able to enjoy it yet. Still healing. Looks good in my garage though! Anyway, I've had A LOT of time on my hands to lurk the forums and check out your pictures. I've been blown away by some of your builds. You've given me so many ideas that I literally don't know where to start! As it stands my black Breakout is bone stock. This may sound unusual but I'd like to hear from those of you that have regrets about specific mods. Things you wish you had done differently in retrospect. This isn't Breakout specific but I'd appreciated if the BO owners would chime in. Thanks
First of all, I know I speak for the many members on this forum when I say THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
So, what are my regrets?
1) Should have got a Heritage instead of a Fatboy since I wound up adding a windshield and bags anyway.
2) Spent way to much $$$ on HD branded gear. A little is fine, every piece of gear with the HD logo? Not so much.
3) Pipes. I should have taken my time to actually listen to lots of different pipes before buying.
4) Seat. See #3 above. Don't buy a new seat till you get to sit on a bunch.
Although you didn't ask, here's some mods I'm happy with..
1) Mustache highway bars.
2) 4 " curved pull back risers.
3) Sundowner deep bucket seat.
4) Powervision tuner and fuel moto pro billet air cleaner.
5) Leather pros quick detachable bags.
6) Laydown license plate bracket.
Only regrets I have on my Heritage is leaving the stock turn signals up front...gotta get that taken care of, AND the other is having Colormania do the paint on my tins. They were very difficult to work with.
Other than that I'm happy with every mod I've done.

Thanks for the kind words brother. It's my pleasure.
Thanks for detailed feedback. Adding the "PRO's" was a good idea too. Great looking bike man.
First off WELCOME HOME,, from a Retired E-9 USMC I thank you for you dedication and service.
What I would do is scout out all the ideas on the forum and choose your own poison. Ask me how I know??
Swing arm bags, first one did not work, I mounted it lazy and chose the wrong bag, now I have a Leatherworks large 5 in and I made my own mounts which work great.
I added extended reach bars and now once in a while I wonder what short apes would be like for better comfort.
Other then that I am extreamally happy with my BO. I guess so I have 9,000 in one year and on my second set of tires.
Ride Ride and by the way the vibration is very theropedic for my war torn body. So as soon as you can get up and take a slow soothing ride.

The Breakout is a very fine bike just the way it comes, and it's very hard to improve on it without screwing it up. Nothin' wrong with leaving it the way it is.
Ultimately I want to keep the bike very simple and would like to pay homage to the old dragsters. Minimalist look with limited bling. I don't care about pulling big HP/HQ numbers out of her. I raced motorcycles years ago and I'm done going fast especially on public roads. I want to lower it, stage one and done, exhaust, extend my forward controls, and maybe swap out the bars for something wider. I'm also considering shortening the existing fender to show more of the 240".

I couldn't agree more. That's part of my problem! I just want to make it MINE though. It doesn't take much to set it apart.
