Yeah yeah, sacrilege and all that. I have fairly major drop-foot from a back/hip injury during my stint in uniform (thus my user-name). I do a lot of miles on this little hot-rod and I've considered everything from a jockey and auto-clutch to a trike (very briefly, LOL). I didn't think boards would make that big a difference, but it's definitely better than forwards - for me.
Big thanks to dr. dirty for the straight up swap for my forwards. For those wondering: '09 Xbones to '07 NT. We traded nearly everything from the frame out, just to be sure. Probably could have gotten away with only swapping the mounting brackets, pegs/boards, brake arm/pedal & shift arm. We swapped the rear m/c and jiffy-stand just to be safe - but in hindsight I'm 99% sure they're exactly the same parts and locations. Even the rubber jiffy stand bumper strikes my frame in exactly the same place. We did not swap shift linkages or brake lines. I had zero clearance issues with exhaust or primary on my end. It took 5 mins to remove my parts, and 10 mins to install the boards - the extra 5 was bleeding the rear brake. Easiest retro-fit I've ever done.
sacrelidge?? nah. When I got ahold of my Fatboy, the previous owner had swapped out the boards for FX style forwards with pegs. I had put all new boards and brackets back on.............like a new bike. My back is junk too,and boards make those longer rides alot easier. Enjoy.
