Thanks fellas. I have the Heartland kit so I am already cutting horns and have a new fender. Good to know the 06 still has the 3/4" axle. I will stick with my stock swingarm and grind what I need to fit the caliper. Basically what I need to get is:
2006 70t narrow pulley
narrow belt
custom spacers to push the pulley outwards
Now what about the drive pulley in the primary? Do I need to put a spacer in there to line the belt up with the rear pulley?
I have heard, but not witnessed, that there is enough width in the primary pulley that it is the same for the 'fat' belts as well as the 'skinny' belts. I have also noticed that others have had some fun getting the rotor and caliper properly aligned... that comes first, then you make the drive pulley work. The best thing to do is to have the hub on the rear wheel made to match the '06. Then adjust from there... but I have no idea what the difference in the swingarms is... I wouldn't buy anything else or grind on anything until I got the wheel and tire and took a look at what is working and what isn't, personally. Use a laser placed flush on the drive pulley mounting surface of the hub and see where it's going to hit on the primary pulley. Mount your rotor and put the caliper on the rotor and see what is happening there... then get some spacers cut if necessary and make sure you are good to go.
Ok, so from what I've gathered so far, I can keep the stock sprocket. I will be getting a 2006 swingarm just so the I don't have to shave the caliper mount. My rear wheel will be a 18x5.5" with a 3/4" axle hub. I have the 20mm narrow pulley being made and will be ordering the 20mm belt sometime in the next few days.
Now, from what I see on my stock wheel setup on my 2005 FXST I have about 20mm on the drive side of my tire before it touches the belt. So with the narrow pulley the outer most edge of the belt will line up in the same spot as the outer edge of the stock belt. Only difference is that the inner part of the belt would be spaced out further and give me probably an additional 10mm or so more clearance over what I have now. I just need to measure and get the right spacer made to push the narrow pulley out.
I can't back out anymore. The wheel is already being made and I'm set on a 200mm. I'll play guinea pig and post results when I get all the parts together.

I did this conversion over the winter and did not need a different inner primary sprocket spacer or swingarm. I went with a 17x6 stock NT wheel and 20mm belt. My bike is a 04. With the 18x5.5 wheel you won't have to shave the brake caliper bracket like I did. I changed my drive pulley to a 09 but had to mill down the back spacing for a wider wheel. 18x5.5 wheel won't have too. I have a build thread on here that explains everything I did just look me up on this site.

As long as you're not afraid to take a right angle grinder to your bike, it's easy!
I put a 200mm tire on without changing the belt or pulley.
Mines an 05.
The belt is really close to the tire. But I've seen custom bikes that were closer than where mine is.
When backing up it will get closer to wheel almost rubbing it. I talked to the Heartland guys, they said if you can live with that there's no need to switch out to the skinnier belt.
It's all about the spacing, you need to get that right especially when it comes to the rotor and caliper.
Make sure it fits in perfect or you'll warp your rotor.
I have a PM caliper which is a two piece so after getting the wheel centered I was able to space the caliper centered to the rotor.
I think it would've been harder with my stock caliper as that is one piece.
I was also told I'd have to cut off the belt guard mount on swingarm, didn't have to do that either.
I will eventually to make it look cleaner.

Thanks for all the good info, fellas. I think I found the answer to all my questions. I met up with Jake from Heartland and he answered whatever else I needed to know. Now just the waiting game. Just picked up the missing parts to my Heartland kit and ordered the 20mm belt. Now just waiting for my rims and rotors to be cut and coated. I'll start a build thread here in about a week or so.
