Default Harley Batteries

After a little more then a year I need to replace my battery. If I let my bike sit more then 4 days I have to charge the battery. Nothing is draining it and nothing is left on, the stock battery IMO is just crap.

What is a good replacement battery for a Heritage, something will good cranking amps that isn't going to die on me after four days.

I had my stock battery for 6 years.
Have you cleaned all the connections and re tightened everything?

Still on my stock battery too (2008). While it could be that you got a bad battery that just didn't last, most have their HD batts last for years. You could always take it to an auto parts store and have the batt tested just to be sure it needs replacing. There are newer battery options (lithium ion) but so far they have mixed reviews and are expensive. When mine dies I will most likely just get one from Autozone and make sure it stays on the tender during the winter. This has worked well for me thus far.

This is the company that manufactures all the batteries for the MoCo, http://www.dekabatteries.com/ and if you check the website you may find a local distributor where you can get one cheaper than the Harley dealer. If you jiggle your current battery and the voltage fluctuates it's probably a bad connection or you have internally broken battery.

On the other hand with millions of Harley branded Dekka batteries running around it's a big stretch to say they all suck. What sucks is the price at the dealership.

I put a Big Boar battery in my Hardtail and it didn't last 6 months before it internally shorted.

Lately I've been using auto parts store batteries and the current one is three years old and no problems. I paid $79 for it but they have went up a little since then but still cheaper than the dealer.

I think this is close to the model battery I got at an Autozone.

Just make sure the dimensions are close to what you need and the CCA is 300 amps or better. They come with a three month warranty and I think you can get it even cheaper with a core battery to turn in.

You may have gotten a bad battery, or you may have a battery drain.

The stock batteries used by HD are (and have always been) as good as any out there.

Just because you have a problem with a part does not mean they are all bad.

How did you determine that the rest of your electrical system is good?

What year Softail?

Is it possible that something else is causing your battery to either drain or not charge properly? The reason I ask is that I had my original battery for almost 9 years but I also ride a lot and that helps to keep it charged.

+1 on good life out of the stock battery. Like mentioned above Deka is the manufacturer of the OEM battery. My original battery finally gave up on my '06 last fall. Replaced it with a Deka battery from American Classic Motor's Ebay site.

Thanks for the replies, I cleaned and check all connections and seem good to go. I have a battery tender that I keep on it through the winter but it seems I have to even keep it on it during this time of year. I found a new one at our battery store that claims 350 CA.

Going to just put that in it, hate to get stuck somewhere you know.

When my battery went out on my 04 fxdl (8 years are old) I replaced it with one from O'Neal auto at a much lower price than HD. I was told it was made by the same folks as the HD one. Leaving it on a tender was why it lasted 8 yrs.

My stock.battery died after 5 years. I replaced it with a Batteries Plus gel battery. So far, so good.
