Default Rear tire/wheel for pre-'00 softail

I have seen a lot of discussion on here about the wide tire kits, and going wider than stock. How wide (wheel width, and tire width) can you go with no modifications to the stock bobtail, swingarm, struts, etc.?

Also, to put '00-up wheels on a pre-'00 bike, what do you need to change? I realize the newer style uses sealed bearings, so new wheel bearings. Do you need to change the rotors, are there different spacers, what can you tell me?

Thanks in advance!

On the bottom right of this page type in 'wide tire' in the search box and you get about 50 previous entries on the subject. Happy reading.

Pre 2000 softails use a 3/4" rear axle.
Your Deuce wheel is 1" I presume.

I don't know if you can press those 3/4" tapered bearings in a Deuce wheel that is set up and machined for 1" sealed bearings.

The first step would be measure your swingarm inner axle length, then his to see if it is somewhere close.

The Deuce wheel is a 3/4 bearing same as 2000-up Softails. I put a Deuce wheel on my 2001 Softail standard, thats how I know. I know nothing about the 1999-downs though, except there the tapered bearings and the 2000-up are the sealed type.
