which pipes
Looking for recommendations for a full exhaust to replace the stock setup on my ’13 Heritage Softail, but with a twist; I'd like quiet, not loud. And what I mean by quiet is if the stock exhaust registers a ‘1’ and straight pipes are a ‘10’, I’d like to stay in the 1 – 3 range. I'm open to either a ‘longshots’ or a 2/1 setup because they both put the tip or tips out back and not right under my right ear. Sound like anything anyone has on their Softail?
And will I have to replace the air intake and get an efi tuner, no matter what brand I put on? Thanks in advance . . .

Longshots are not quiet, per se.. and i guess you mean you want an exhaust that is quiet to Your ear, and not to the people around you? I had a set of V&H BigShots Staggered, and as the rider, I could still hear them pretty clear. My straightshots were still just as loud.. Several people make 'quiet baffles' which can dampen the sound, but as far as a 'quiet to the rider exhaust', i can't think of any from the top of my head
I have a 2013 deluxe with v&h bss and its pretty loud but does sound real good. I am going to talk to my dealer next about the baffles. Folks on this forum say that I shouldn't have to remap with my hd sert. They also look real good on the deluxe. 1 to 10 I would give them a 6 to 7 in loudness.
The only quite performance pipe I was able to find was the supertrapp supermeg. Still don't like the looks of it but low/mid power was noticeable improvement over drag pipes with quite baffles ( not really quite). I ran with closed end cap for a while (about stock quite) but now have the open end cap which makes a little noise but it is really deep.

I don't think it fits the look of the Heritage though.
If you want quite why not just keep the stock pipes. Save the $$ for riding.
With a 1" hole saw on a 12" drill bit you can drill out the baffle plate and can get a bit of sound and not get to loud. A 2-3 on your scale.
I have the bassani 2 into 1 road rage on my 02 heritage and love the sound, I have the performance baffle but you can go with the quite baffle if that is the sound you are looking for. Check out their web site for videos, also some on you tube. Good luck with your decision.
