Hello. I am a fairly new member as well as a new Harley owner, just got my slim in April. I love the bike but it is a bit uncomfortable as I am 6' 1" and the stock bars are really low, so I have decided to go with taller bars. After a few weeks of insanity looking at all the different bars on the market I have decided to go with 14" Carlinis, still not sure exactly which style as they have a few that would look good on the Slim.
In the end it is my decision, just looking for some opinions on what would look good on my bike. There are no plans to black out or add chrome to the bike. The only planned mods at this time are a shotgun shock and apes.
I will attempt to post pics of the bike, the front and rear reflectors have been removed since the pics were taken.
Carlini makes some really sweet looking bars. Whichever you decide to go with, it'll make a huge difference, both in looks and in ride quality/comfort. At 6'2", I went with 16's (Roland Sands, though) and they're great for me. With the shotgun at stock or slightly lowered and 14 inch bars, they'll be at or just below your shoulders and sit you up nicely.
I think you could easily go either way with the bars - on one hand, the chrome would run right in with the pipes, front end, air cleaner, and other "shiny" bits. The tall chrome draws attention. On the other hand, the sissy bar is taller and is also black, and the contrast with the risers is nice, too. Had the sissy bar been chrome, it would have been a no-brainer in my mind to go with chrome bars. Not sure there's a bad choice either way.
Have you considered contrasting your cables? Could go braided stainless with black bars, or black braided with chrome bars to continue the contrast which adds the small details to further catch the eye. I'm from the "everything goes black" school, but there are a TON of blacked out bikes around. Refreshing to see some color and contrast when someone puts thought and interest into the project.

It's easy to find examples of black cables on chrome bars - most of them come that way from the factory (though not braided). I've seen one bike that I recall with stainless braided lines with black bars, and, in my opinion, it looked really nice. Obviously, this isn't bars, but it's a lot of black surrounding stainless cables:

No ABS on mine. For what it's worth, I did go with Magnum cables, and definitely recommend them. Not sure about what you'd need for ABS, and also thought perhaps I'd heard about issues with bleeding the ABS system without special tools - though I may be completely wrong about that. Magnum would have whatever you'd need, once you can get it all sorted out.
Black bars with chrome lines would look great on your bike since you have the black sissy bar, oil tank and tank console. The stainless lines would help tie it in with the chrome you do have on it already. Black control housings with chrome w/rubber inserts grips would look good too. That's all what I'm planning for my RK classic when I go to 14" apes.

I agree. I'd also suggest black 2" fiberglass wrap for your headers. Would add a nice contrast also IMO.
