Default Heritage Rattle

Maybe I'm nuts, or maybe I'm just not used to a Heritage, but when I ride my wifes new bike I swear there has got to be something loose in the steering/windshield area. When we had it in the shop a few days ago, I asked them to check and of course nothing was found. I rode it again yesterday and again could hear something that just seemed "loose", especially when you go over rough road. Could it just be the windshield, or maybe even the "moon cap" that covers the front axle hub?

Any idea's??

Thanks!

Could be the tins, could be the spokes, could be the light bar. I had the same problem with mine. Went on for about a month could never find it then it just stopped. That was two years ago and I haven't heard it since.

I have a similar rattle when going over bumps. I finally gave up and let it rattle.

Same problem with my 2004 Heritiage Classic. It sounded to me like it was coming from the nacelle, so I openned it up and wire-tied and insulated the wires. Still have the problem. Also thoughht it might be coming from wires under the tank, but I didn't feel like pulling the tank to check. I've given up for now.

The rivets that hold my headlightwere loose and used to rattle, drove me nuts trying to find it. I opened it up and "staked" them in place. One other thing,a windsheild will make the sound "travel", making it harder to find the source.

I had this problem with my '03 Heritage. The steering felt loose and whenever I went over a bump such as railway tracks, the front end would bang or clunk.
The dealer tech knew what the problem was immediately. The bolt at the top of the fork had snapped. He said the '03's had issues with those top bolts. Apparently the bolts used were not the ones spec'd for the bike. I don't know what year your bike is, but even if it's a different year, those bolts could still be the problem. Check it out. They are located under the tin.

Noticed a rattle on my new Fatboy around the front end. Ifound a cable just behind the voltage regulator plate that was buzzing around. Could not find it until I got a rubber mallet, wrapped in a towel and started tapping things lightly. Used a ziptie to pull the two wires together and this quieted it down.
