That sucks man! Sorry to hear.

What color is your tank?

You can find stuff on eBay much cheaper but you have to be really patient so that doesn't work for everyone.

I bought a brand spanking new Slim tank last month on eBay. It has one of those metal flake hard candy custom paint jobs on it. The tank is flawless. I got it for around $360 wit shipping. When I priced it in the catalog under the color shop options I found out the tank retails for $1700 if I ordered it from Harley.

Looks like I need to replace the fuel tank, handle bars, turn signals and mirrors.

Why can't I find softail slim fuel tanks on Harley Site?
Were you using these? http://www.harley-davidson.com/store/frame-protectors If not, I'd invest in them as they add a lot of stability.

Those protectors and a good set of tie downs and soft ties are invaluable.
Even a cheap set of Walmart ratchet straps is way better then nothing.

I don't care if it is a Pitbull,J&S,Harborfreight, or any other lift or jack, if your not using tie downs your an accident waiting to happen. What if you had been laying down under the bike when it came down. Just not a good situation.

I've owned a Pitbull since 2002 and never even slightly worry about the stability. When I store the bike in the winter, it's up on the lift and covered - perfectly safe.

Good luck with the repairs. Oh yeah, we need pictures.
That's fantastic that while on a Pitbull lift it's impossible for a bike to fall off.
I've got to get me one of those.

I'm washing my Heritage right now and I've got it siting on my Sears yellow jack and I'm 100% sure it will not fall off the jack.
Why am I 100% sure? Because it's tied down.

Obviously Mikeduke screwed the pooch as we all have done at one time or another.

This is not a jack or lift thread.
Lets keep the subject on track and find Mike a fuel tank.

LOL...

When it does fall off, he spent a lot more $$$ for it to happen.

It's just like the schmucks who buy a Ferrari and laugh at the "rubes" driving a Chevy. Point A to B...it does it's job. Whatever makes you feel better about yourself.

People use the "cheapie" lifts all the time. It's always operator error when they fall. Not slamming the OP. **** happens and it sucks.

On topic, I agree...search flea-bay instead of paying thru the @ss at the dealer.

Said the guy that has never used a Pitbull or any other quality lift.

If you can get a bike to fall off of a Pitbull lift, you've done something pretty stupid. Now I will tie it down on the PB Lift if I'm removing a wheel because it completely changes the weight distribution. Other than that, the bike isn't going anywhere and I've done some serious wrenching and tugging on the bike on the lift.

I used a Sears red jack for 10 years - fair jack, but scary when used with my bagger.

I have a J&S jack- exponentially better than the Sears

Recently got a K&L table lift- absolute heaven to work on a bike..

So I guess I qualify to say it....

The "pretty stupid" thing done when the bike falls off a lift of any type is a failure to secure it...

I strap my bike on all three of the lifts I own/owned....

It's too late once it falls off and you realize you were pushing/working too hard and should have strapped it down.

Hindsight is 20/20....

OP-- sorry for your misfortune, good luck with the repairs....

We're ensuring gets rid of that POS jack so we're not looking for a tank for him again in 3 months. I think the tank thing has been covered as well.
