Just a little PSA here, make sure your bags are closed. I forgot to latch my swing arm bag and heard this terrible thunk every few seconds as I slowed down to about 45 from highway speeds after just leaving work yesterday. Now I have about 20 nice little dent scratches in my fender and about 10 or so in my freshly powder coated strut cover.
My girlfriend was complaining about me wanting to paint the bike and how she likes the color now. Well, now there's an excuse to get it painted. Plus I have to get the strut fix.
And I didn't do this on purpose if you guys are wondering.
The other day I forgot to latch the hard bag after doing a little shopping, No damage but annoying hearing it bang over every bump. So what color were you thinking of painting the bike ?

I forgot the latches on my Heritage once. with the lid and the long straps, it was very noticeable. I did not have to go far without noticing it, no damage.

That sucks man. On my Garage Leathers bag, between the thickness of the leather and the weight of the buckle, it has never done that even though I forget about it all the time....
I have a swing arm bag and I have not forgotten to close it before a ride (yet).
I have seen Heritage bags open (many many times) on a ride and no damage, but I think I might get damage (swing arm bag) if I ever forget.
2 things I do:
1: I always latch the bag closed EVERY time I open it. (I never walk away with the bag unlatched). Even if I think I might need to place something inside, I latch it closed, then re open the bag when I have the item in my hand.
2: Preflight the bike: Give the bike a quick visual once over including looking at the tires for an obvious low pressure, and check the bag, before a ride.
Forgot once and a receipt flew out that I needed from an online purchase I was bringing to the store to be able to pickup what I ordered. Had to ride all the way back home and print out a new one.
I leave my Leather Pro 4000s unbuckled all time and it hasn't caused any problems. My normal commute is under 55mph though so I make sure they're buckled if I'm going on the interstate
Don't feel bad did the same thing luckly the buckle only scratched the strut cover and was I mad. Shame on me. I now find myself reaching back to check.
We would never think you did this on purpose so you could repaint.
**** happens and we move on or should I say we RIDE ON.
