Admittedly, it's not entirely my point . It was based on a very good two part article in the technical section of American Iron a couple issues back. I'm convinced it does help while moving or standing still verses not having one, but the significant benefit certainly comes while moving air is flowing over the cooling fins.....

Every bike i ever owned ,i installed an oil cooler as my first mod.Many air cooled bikes come from the factory with an oil cooler. As far as cooling ability when not mving: the radiators in my home don't move yet i stay nice and warm on a cold day. As for looking at a techs bike, most are clueless or don't get paid enough to afford one. Oil coolers are like insurance, ya don't need it till ya need it........... Don't stress, if ya don't want one,then don't.

That's why if you think you'll be in that situation you buy one with a built-in fan. Even here in the Northeast I've run into traffic where it took 4 or 5 cycles to make it through an extremely busy intersection. I bought the Jagg w/fan assist. To me, it's an "Ounce of prevention..." That I've installed vs some peoples anecdotal evidence to the contrary.
