My girlfriend's mom picked up a 2014 Fatboy Lo this weekend at bike week and like anyone immediately wants exhaust. She is not concerned with performance persay and I recommended vance and hines slip ons. The guys working the Vance and Hines booth insisted slip ons would still require air cleaner and tuner (go figure) and worked up a price quote of 1600 installed for a stage one upgrade. My question is, is it necessary to do full stage one even with just running slip ons? Opinions.
With Rush 1.75 baffle slip on's the bike runs fine with no tuning. What baffle size are the V&H. This is just my opinion but having had both 1.75 and 2.0 baffles I prefer the 1.75. I think the larger baffles are pushing it and I would at least look at a set of XiED's with the larger baffles. Just my experience.
I bought a '14 Heritage last Sept - added Cycle Shack slip ons 2 weeks later. Ran ok for a year, albeit lean I suspect (much popping on decel).
I would recommend a re-map. If she bought the Power Vision 2, she could re-map right away nicluding some auto-tuning, and adjust again in the future if she went with another air cleaner or other mods.

Many slip-ons pop on decel regardless of the presence of a tuner or map. My Rush 2.00" has popped for 55,000 miles with a SERT and Stage I. Been dyno'ed twice over the years.
Just slip on's or pipes does not require an air cleaner or mapping. She will get the "Harley Sound" with just a pair of V&H (or just about any brand) slip-ons.
If she goes nuts and gets a 2 into 1 pipe (like I did) it will run a bit lean, but no worries on the air cleaner or mapping.
If she gets the air cleaner (screaming eagle stage 1 is most common) then she will need a mapping.
