Get the Progressive shocks if any. Much better than the HD
stuff and more adjustability to boot. It's quite simple to change
out the shocks yourself. I figure a lift is a must to get more room
to work. But could probably be done without, along with some
bleeding knuckles....

ORIGINAL: NumberOne

I talked to the service manager at the harley shop here and he says lowering the bike with the Arlen Ness kit will cost 250, but he recommends buying lowering shocks ???? and that will cost me 400 or so. I know you have to press the old stuff out for the lowering kit, which I could get done at work I think. So whats the better route ??? I would like -1.5" drop if possible. Harleys shocks give about 1 or less he says. Seems kind of expensive just to get the bike lowered unless I do it myself. I would eat the Ness kit if I had to and maybe order the progressive shocks for 400 instead of using Harleys. Since the shocks are on the bottom of the bike, is it easy to do that yourself ???
I have never worked of a bike before, but I have worked on racecars etc all my life, so I know my way around a wrench.

ok I ordered the progressive shocks today, maybe they will be in by this weekend.

next up on the list is bars.....I spent most of the day at work researching them. Chubby's look a bit better to me, but I still like the sweeps arch. the thing I am having the most problems with is how they will look on the bike. After seeing the sweeps from different angles, I think they are too tall coming off the risers when I look at some bikes, but at other times they seem to fit nicely like CC's bike. they flow alot better with the chopper style fender. AND they would look even better with a small rake of the front end.
How can a cheap rake be done and what will be the cost of it ?? I think I read DD doing a rake the cheap way on his bike, but I am not sure if I could do that, and what drawbacks are there to this.....

You might as well laugh at me now......I am in the just throw more money at it until its right theme....lol
I have had the bike for 3 days and already spent 1k on it... I put boogie lights on it saturday at a toy run in Ft Pierce.

Hey guys - hows tricks?? Been swamped with work - hell I have hardly even ridden the bike in the past 3 months, maybe a couple hundred miles a month during some amazing riding weather.

Looks like we have a bunch of new guys around, welcome too all - you picked the best looking bike Harley makes/made - enjoy it and now make them your own.

Hopefully I can find a little time to get back in here and mix it up with ya'll - you guys are great, glad to see the Senior Deucemeisters still handing out quality info to our new brethern.

Peace,
Buzz

#1, an inexpensive way to add a little rake is to install raked cups instead of replacing the trees. you have to be carefull not to throw off yourtrail but adding a couple degrees shouldn't hurt much. there's a goodrake & trail calculator on theperse website. http://www.perseperformance.com/if you rake out too far you can add longer tubes to compensate. otherwise you'll get some front end wobble at high speeds.
