Fellas - in case anyone missed it, Deuce Bigelow has joined the ranks of 1D3 and Blue Deuce as former Deuce owners - the balance is quickly shifting towards the bad, we better start some sort of save the Deuce campaign - any thoughts?

Deuce Bigelow,

Thanks for posting those pics of your homemade quick-detach passenger seat set up, very cool. [sm=goodidea.gif]

This is just what I'm looking for, a quick and easy way to switch to/from the solo look. To do this the outer cover and interior foam padding had to be removed in order to put the bolts through. Did you do this yourself or did you have someone remove and replace the seat materials? If you did do it yourself, was it hard to do and how did you make sure the holes lined up perfectly with the bolts? Is it just a matter of holding the Deuce sissy bar to the bottom of the seat pan and marking the holes before drilling them? If you paid someone else to remove and replace the seat materials, how much did it cost for the labor?

I would love to do thismodon my bike.
I did it myself, I drilled out the pop rivets and removed the cover and pad as one peice, lined up the sissy bar and drilled the seat pan and mountedthe sissy bar to itthen pop riveted the cover and pad back on.

it was really easy![8D]
Are the seat cover and foam pad already glued together as one piece? Did you just line up the sissy bar in the dead center of the seat pan and hold it tight against the back of the seat pan when you drilled the holes? When you re-riveted the seat cover and foam pad back on to the seat pan, did you put the rivets back in the exact same spots? Or did you have to put them in new spots because the original holes were oversized due to drilling them out to remove the cover/foam pad? Do you know what size rivets you used?

Sorry for all the questions but I want to do this mod the right way the first time out. I hate when a seemingly simple project doesn't go as planned and you wind up accidentlydestroying/ruining the very thing you were trying tofix/improve/install. [sm=noooo.gif]
No problem..............

The foam pad and cover came off as one piece, I never checked to see if they were glued together, but they didn't fall apart from each other when I removed them.
I bolted on the bracket that holds the rear of the passenger pad to the fender (I had to remove it in order to remove the cover and foam), and lined it up so that the sissy bar fit as normal in relation to the bracket on the passenger pad seat pan.
then I marked and drilled the holes in the seat pan, I checked to see how thick of a spacer I would neeed to make the sissy bar sit straight but not come down too far and touch the rear fender, then I bolted everything together.
I test fit it on the bike to make sure that the seat pan was sittingproperly and the clearance was acceptable between the sissy bar and fenderbefore I reinstalled the cover and foam pad.
I reused the original pop rivet holes (I was VERY careful drilling the old rivets out).
there are two differentlength rivets used, both are 3/16 rivets, thelengthsare 1/8 - 1/4" grip range (primarly used for the cover) and the longer ones are 1/2 -5/8" grip range.

The longer rivets are used for the rubber feet on the bottom of the passenger pad (they also need to come off), I may have used a longer rivet in a few of the regular holes here and there, you'll know when you're there......

Good Luck with the mod!
it's really very easy to do..........

Hey Buzz,

I think I have heard something like this before. Does this sound familiar?

Once a Deuce always a Deuce!

You're right, the balance is starting to shift. We have new people popping in from time to time, but no regulars. It seems the regulars are droppin' like flies. Hopefully with the introduction of the Rocker, the Deuce owners out there will come lookin' for their family. I think maybe they overlooked the family because they figured the Deuce would always be around. Now that it's disappeared, they will start to feel lonely.

Come September, the question will be, will the Rocker be fully accepted in the Deuce forum until there is a Rocker forum? To me, the Rocker looks like the Deuce's step-brother.
