Well Im in Va.....44 yo with plus 5 points.....full coverage on an 04 sporty and its 190 a year with progressive. I really never checked any where else....my agent sells progressive for bikes since Erie Ins doesnt. And I had to have ins before I could leave the dealership with the bike....dont know if that is a Va law or just something the dealership does. Anyway I asked the dealer if 190 was high and he said nope that it was a good deal in his book so.......I took it and never shopped.
I actually have Erie for everything including the HD here in North Carolina. I have a great agent in the Charlotte area that wrapped everything onto one policy when I bought my new house. I had Progressive on the bike previously. I was not unhappy with them but she saved me hundreds and increased my coverage. If you want her info send me a pm. I'm sure she would be happy to look at your stuff and let you decide what is best.
GMAC. $1050 for a '05 Ultra and '07 Deluxe. Had a oops a couple years back, $12.5K in damage to the Ultra.. absolutely NO promlems with claims. VERY good people to work with. They told the dealer.."whatever it takes".
I got a quote from the caveman/lizard this year... wanted $1,800 for the same coverage.
I think SMUNDORF hit on a key, find a good agent. I almost stumbled across mine while on the way to visit a different agent when I was shopping for my motorcycle insurance. I ended up with Progressive and have been happy so far. My rates have dropped every year since I signed up with them in 2005.
My agent is Gary Hancock with Insurance Solutions in Mooresville. You'll see his ads in Full Throttle and you'll probably see Gary at the CBA show this weekend as well as other events such as the Easy Riders show. Gary is a rider and so are several of his office girls. His people checked with several different companies before deciding Progressive was the best fit for me. And I ended up with a rate that was almost $200 less than a quote I had gotten from Progressive on-line the day before. I gave Gary my auto insurance as well and they saved me a little over $500 a year on two cars.
One more bit of info I found out when we were shopping for a policy for a car my son bought last spring. If you have a traffic violation and your motorcycle insurance and you car insurance are with different companies, you'll take the hit for higher rates on both policies. But if your coverage for both vehicles is with the same company, they only charge you with the violation for one of the vehicles. That is something my previous agent never expalined to me and I had been with them since I started driving in 1972.
Snort is right on the money, my agent told me that if I lived outside of Charlotte / Mecklenburg county, my rates would be half what they are. Charlotte has the highest accident and theft rates for motorcycles of any city in the state.
