Several of us went to the Charlotte CBA swap shop today. I was pretty disappointed....a lot of empty space; many vendors did not come. I do not know the number, but I am sure there was a huge decrease in vendors....very disappointing.....
The last few years, it has been dwindling. It's a 350 mile round trip for me. By the time I factor in gas and gate admission, I'm out 75 bucks for the trip before I buy anything. I stayed home this year, also.
With the amount of vendors they have, the $12.00 admission is way too much. I was also disappointed in the lack of bikes entered in the show. I hope that they can straighten this thing out. I probably will not go again until the vendor # goes up and may be the admission cost goes down.
Both attendance and the number of vendors were down from previous events. But, still had a goodtime, and did locate a few excellent buys that negated the cost of admission.
This thread sounds like what I hear on some of the gun forums concerning gun shows. People don't go to the shows becasuse of the admission price, parking fee or lack of vendors. Show promoters have to charge what they do because attendance is down and the cost of putting on the show isn't getting any cheaper. Kind of a catch 22. Not sure what is right but I do try to support the local gun and bike shows even though for other reasons I was not able to attend the CBA show this weekend.
A friend of mine who I met through my son playing high school baseball told me a story years ago. He said everytime he goes to a high school baseball game he buys a hot dog and a coke whether he's really hungry or not. Why? Because he knows the money goes to the booster clubs and he knows they need the money because he used to be a booster club president. I guess this is a similar situation. If we don't support the local bike shows, who will? And what will happen to them? If the CBA show went away, would we be happy they weren't around anymore to charge us $12? Not condeming anyone for not going, just thinking outloud this morning............
