Going to be riding from Memphis to Mobile in March and just wanted some ideas for rides down that way. Got to take the OL to Fla (she's never been there). Maybe some good seafood places too. Thanks ahead of time for ideas.
I don't know much about where to go in Montgomery, but I do have a suggestion for ya.....pack some heat. Some places down there are pretty rough from what I have been told
I'm not real big on Montgomery...spend way too much time there for work, but I've never ran into any trouble...and I've been in some places where trouble would be easy to come by. Once you get to the coast, you'll find fresh seafood most anywhere along Mobile Bay. Some great places on the Causeway: Ed's Seafood Shed, The Bluegill, Oysterella's, etc. If you get to Mobile, I'd suggest taking Alabama 59 south to the Gulf of Mexico...turn left and ride along the beach through Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and over into Pensacola, FL. Weather should be great by then. Not that it exactly sucks now....high of 70 tomorrow. Gotta love it!
Thanks for the info SpdChsr. Slacker and I are really looking forward to the trip in March. It is terrible to buy a new 09 Street Glide in the middle of Nov. and have to pick and choose when the weather lets us ride. Can't wait for spring!
We probably won't get any where near Montgomery, although that is my place of birth. We will probably do most of our riding to Mobile on Ms.Hwy 45. I was just wanting to be sure we didn't miss something good while in Mobile. Looking forward to the real fresh seafood though.
Go South past Mobile to Dauphin Island. Take the ferry East from Dauphin Island over to Fort Morgan. Ride Fort Morgan Road to 59. 59 South to Gulf Shores then head East toward P'Cola along the beach. Make sure you go through the tunnel in Mobile on I-10 at some point. I always check my pipes there..... Eat at causeway or down on the gulf.

The U.S.S. Alabama.
I agree with Fort Morgan (Damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead fame).
And if you get to P-cola, Fort Pickens & the Navel Air Museum.
Oh yeah....like Phantom Rider said...the ferry across Mobile Bay will get you out of a bunch of traffic in Baldwin County. Not to mention the ride to Dauphin Island aint too shabby. It doesn't run year round though...starts running on the weekends for March/April then daily starting in May. Ft. Gaines on the west and Ft. Morgan on the east....pretty significant in the Civil War...if you're into that. Still...pretty neat even if ya ain't! Check the link below for directions, fares, etc!
