Where is the crack? At a weld? Or on the pipe? It can be welded. It will burn off the chrome and most likely start peeling. A shop that can tig weld it for you would probly charge you $50 minimum. If it is easy to get to it , it can be safely welded on the bike if you ground right on the pipe where you are welding. If not it can arc a bearing. Be sure to remove your ground strap to prevent frying the electronics before welding.
CE, I think you work in industry, right? Take the pipe to work and get one of your guys that is a good tig welder fix you up.
Well guys, I found a real welder. The maintenance foreman where I work is doing it up. I can weld too, Stick, Mig and played around with Tig but I don't own a welder. I walked away laughing at these so called weld shops I went to. I herd everything from too thin to stainless. I just figured nobody wanted the money. It is/was cracked in 2 places. Right where it comes off the jug about 3.5" long and another down on the bottom about 2.5" long.
Anyone know of any rides upcoming in May or June in the midlands area?
I just got back from an 850 mile loop through 4 states. The guys I were riding with told me about a charity poker run for a riders family that crashed and died after leaving "The Bar in Lexington" drunk.
The irony is it lt leaves "The Bar" and just bar hops across town to other bars for all the card stops? I don't get it. Back in the day poker runs were on scenic roads and was about the ride.
Sounds like todays bike events you should leave the bike home and get a designated driver and a van?
Gus, no one says you have to get plastered on the poker run. Remember, freedom of choice is yours.....to drink or not.
I went on a poker run last year for a guy that died up my way. He had bought a new harley, then that same night went out partying with his friends. They begged him to leave the bike at the bar but he refused. He rode home and was hit by a deer. He died at the scene. The poker run ended at the bar he was at....and they have chosen to stop serving the beer he drank (coors light). I took a picture of it because I thought "what the hell is that gonna do?"
I don't know any rides off hand but you can pick up a free copy of Carolina Chrome or Full Throttle. Always a large list of rides in those two publications.
Just about anything can be welded. I learned to stick, mig, and tig from a guy that said he could weld anything from a broken heart to a crack of dawn, and a chewing gum wrapper. You just gotta get the heat right. I did watch him tig 2 coke cans together. Anyway somebody plan this ride.
How about a lunch meet and greet. SC is not a big state but might be a little far to meet up and then ride. Do we want to do it on Sat or Sun? We can make some eating place suggestions. Between Columbia and Charleston Lone Star BBQ in Santee. Rock Hill Sonny's BBQ. Blackville the Bread Basket(I think). Yodas in Abbeville. Schoolhouse BBQ in Scranton.
