Taking a trip to the smokies at the end of this month. Have visted nps.gov website for the smokies and have read that some area's are unpaved roads. Mostley off the beaten path and back country. We would like to see Cataloochee area on the east side of the park, but it is noted as partly unpaved.
Anyone been there? How unpaved is it? loose gravel or compacted dirt road?
Last I was there you don't want to ride a scoot down that unpaved section.
Drove my Avalanche down it and didn't enjoy.
Now once there checking out the elk is great, just find another way to get there!
