I'm in need of a tune since swapping cams recently and am looking for opinions/experience on the list below. If there is someone available to me that I don't have listed, feel free to add them in response.
Here's my options:
Thunder Tower HD - Columbia, SC (90min drive)
Tman Performance - Kernersville, NC (2hrs)
Dougs HD - Florence, SC (1hr)
Charlotte HD - Charlotte, NC (2hrs)
Tilley's HD - Statesville, NC (2.5hrs)
Myrtle Beach Performance - Myrtle Beach, SC (2hrs)
Ben's V-Twin in Matthews just down the road from H-D of Charlotte. He knows his chit, thought I'd try him this fall. He told me 2hrs for my bike
Yeah, I've talked to him last year about doing my cams. I was price shopping at the time. I need to call him. He sat with me for like an hour discussing the different aspects of the swap. He was also very familiar with the cams I chose and said with my setup I'd be rockin some good power.
Does he now have a dyno? When I spoke with him, he didn't and said he used a guy from the area that has a mobile dyno.
On a side note, I just contacted Tman Performance also in Kernersville. They want $395 for a tune. I know they have a reputation as being very good at their profession but goodness gracious. I also see his stage 1 heads went from $650 last year to $810...and now to $869. Yes, I've been following his pricing and I think at some point will price himself right out of the market.
Who does the free dyno tests @ McKoys on bike nights? I want to take my bike out there and see what it will do on the dyno, just for fun, I don't have a bunch of mods, but bike is pretty strong for what it is. About once a month they have a trailer come in and give free dynos, I think it's either the 14th or the 21st this month that they'll be there. I'm sure w/ a big ol mobile dyno they probably tune too...
I've heard good things about Ben too, not sure about dyno stuff.
On that topic, a friend of mine w/ an 88 just went to gear drives coz his cam chain tensioners were shot. So he went w/ bigger cams, and not sure what else. Someone told him he didn't need to have it tuned, but I was thinking he would, if he got bigger cams added to the other standard stage 1 related stuff... Think he's looking for a good tuner, so I'm gonna watch this thread myself...
