We are 4 Canadian guys from the eastern end of Lake Ontario. My buddy has been diagnosed with cancer and he is worried he won't see the summer months in any shape to ride if at all. We suggested we make a run down to the Carolinas and unload the bikes and ride together for a few days/week.
I'm looking for some advice regarding where we could haul our bikes down to the Greensboro/Durham/Wilmington area and leave the truck & trailer while we ride for a few days before heading home so he can begin treatment. None of us know that part of the country at all and I'm just looking for some advice regarding inexpensive motels that may allow us to park, stay, leave for a few days, return, stay again and then leave for home. Our inclination was to head for the hotel/motel zone in and around an airport in the region since they probably do park & fly for travellers.
Any advice or suggestions are more than welcome, we are just trying to avoid parking in a bad spot and returning to less than we left( if you know what I mean)
Don't know when you plan to come, but Western NC (Asheville Area) has some of best known riding in South East. Blue Ridge Parkway and surrounding area is amazing. Second half of April avg highs are upper 60s to low 70s. May has avg highs in mid 70s. Small town just west (Maggie Valley) has great riding in the area and many motorcycle friendly motels. You can goggle motorcycle friendly and get a good list. I have noticed pix of several with trailers in parking lot and have seen same riding the area. If the area interests you, can send you some more info on rides in the area.
I don't know where you could park the truck and trailer safely.... but I've always thought that if I were to do that.... I'd contact one of those "KOA" type places.....drop everyone off at a nearby motel. then the driver and his bike drops off the trailer... sure it will cose a few dollars, but you'd know it was safe.
It's forecast to be some PRIME riding weather in the next few weeks.. hope you get the chane to enjoy time with your friend.
Great riding in ALL directions... and something for all tastes.

I've ridden up there a few times and have found the Harley dealers to be great with customer service I would check with them I wouldn't be surprised if they let you park in the back of there lot. Good luck
I think Western NC would be perfect for you guys. Also... Google Tail of the Dragon. You all should definitely ride that. It is basically on NC Tennessee boarder. Very neat and great picture opportunities.
