Great Smoky Mountains
Greetings, heading down to Orlando soon and meeting family for a Disney vacation. I'm gonna trailer my bike down (gotta bring extra things for the family vaca so I need the truck) to Shades of Green on Disney property, spend a week with the family then spend the next week riding Florida, visiting family and friends and just riding the Sunshine State. I've heard it's a "little" warm in Fl. in July so my tentative plan is to then trailer from Orlando to the Great Smoky Mountain area, find a hotel/motel and tour that area for 3-4 days using the motel as base camp. Any recommendations on hotels/motels that won't have a problem with me parking the truck/trailer on their property while I tour, I'll be returning to the hotel every night and staying there. Need something safe and secure with clean decent rooms, don't need 5 star but something nice, maybe with restaurants near. I'd also like an area where I can spend 3-4 days and have plenty to see and do...ANY recommendations and input will be greatly appreciated. I'm also thinking about, after leaving the GSM area heading North for another 2-3 day stop along the way, I was in Staunton VA. awhile back so maybe in that area or if someone can recommend someplace else along the way North that would be great. Thanks in advance...

Go to Maggie Valley NC and find a place to stay there, small town but restaurants and fast food etc, and very motorcycle friendly, parking for your rig and your bike will not be a problem. There you will have maggie valley to bryson city ride, where you can take a real train ride on a coal fired steam engine, you will have cherokee nc right beside you and a casino if ya the betting type. You are at the foot of the smokies there so you will have the ride over the smokies to galtinburg, cades cove (parsons branch road in cades cove will hook you up with the dragon). You will have the blue ridge parkway, cherohola skyway. The ride from gatlinburg thru townsend (the backway and the shortest way to cades cove with much less traffic). There are a million miles of beautiful riding here in good ol TN/NC. If you are around these parts july 7,8, or 9 ride over near blountville and go to boozy creek for a nice meet with a local club, camping is beyond reasonable and all you need is there, there will be dirt drags on sunday the 9th starting at 1pm, some of those monsters brought there kick up some dirt. Best of all, welcome to my neck of the woods and enjoy.
BTW, while in maggie valley, if ya go there, you ought to check out cataloochee valley. Do not ride your bike there (trust me on this), take the family and and a picnic, hang loose and watch what happens late in the evening there. The ride in and out of cataloochee is worth the trip alone and bring a camera.
