Outer Banks
Hey guys, my Hubby and I will be riding from Arkansas at the end of April thru the Dragon and then onto the Outer Banks. This will be our 1st time out there and will have 2 or 3 days to explore. Was wondering if ya'll had any great gems that we didn't need to miss or things that we did need to miss. From there we will be riding up to Norfolk to do the military tourist thing. Thank you for the help
Well, the 19th of April is the start of OBX Bike week. Runs til the 27th. You must hit Mama Kwans on the Outer Banks for their fish tacos. There is Captain Georges seafood buffet (if you love lots of crab legs).
As far as sights, there are some light houses, the Wright Brothers Museum, and lots of resort shopping. It is the start up of tourist season so there might be a lot of traffic. The bridge going from mainland to the OBX has one side of it shut down so be prepared for long lines during peak hours. If you can, go the back way into the outer banks via 64 through manteo. It is a good ride.
In Norfolk, try to stay off the roads during rush hour. Lots of stupid people out there along with lots of traffic.
If you enjoy event rides or get togethers get on facebook and look up Hampton Roads Biker Events. There is something for everyone from Charity rides, benefits, Dealership events, MC events, etc...
If you are planning on staying in a hotel, once you leave the outer banks, there aren't any until you get into Chesapeake. Don't speed in Currituck County....they will pull you over...
Enjoy your stay and I hope you have a great time. Pretty flat riding around here, the ride out to Knotts Island from the Virginia side (not the ferry), is a good curvy road with some great parks to stop and soak up the scenery.
