Default Riding around TN end of May (Suggestions)

My wife and I will be riding around TN the end of May beginning of June. We are staying in Knoxville 2 days then heading over to Nashville for a few days. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hear the great smokey mnts are a good ride. I'm a huge fan of BBQ joints! We don't get a lot of great BBQ up in northern VT.

If you are going to Nashville and will be spending much time in the city consider renting a car while you are there, lots and lots of traffic. Around Knoxville there is Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge all roads in eastern TN lead to the mountains and great riding. If you get a chance slip over to Cherokee NC, great area.

nice area to ride in was down few years ago, and going back first of june. Check the road trip forums. Lot of rock slides in area, rt 129 (tail of the dragon), believe its going to be closed till sept. Parts of I 40, and a section of the blue ridge parkway. Not sure where going to do just find detours I guess. Good luck

I was raised in Tennessee and though I live in GA now, I go back very regularly. A couple of things to consider in the Knoxville area - in Gatlinburg ride through 1000 drips, it's a great ride on backroads (Roaring Fork) behind Galtinburg proper. Of course, the Smokey's are a beautiful ride but don't miss the chance to ride Cherahola Skyway. It's breathtaking territory with virgin forests. At a couple of places you ride through clouds.

If you are going to Nashville, consider going to Chattanooga, take I-24 across Monteagle Mountain. On top of Monteagle, take Hwy 41 to Winchester, then to Tullahoma and Shelbyville. Take a side trip on Hwy 55 to Lynchburg for the Jack Daniels Distillery. You could take 41 into Nashville, which is a lot of backroad, or take US 231 to I-24 and into Nashville that way. Once in Nashville, visit Printer's Alley.

I guess that's more information that you wanted, but hey, you asked. LOL

I love E TN, but if you are wanting good BBQ you have to go to the flat lands of West TN.

When you get there, pick up a tour brochure. There are alot of stuff to look at, just plan where your going and stop by popular sites on the way.

Ruby Falls, and Rock City!!! We just went there and they both are worth the trip. Easily done in one day. Eat at the Chattanooga Station House Restaurant. Make a reservation. It's worth watching your waitress sing and serve. Also do the Incline railway the same day. We stayed at the Marriott Convention Center 80 a night on priceline. Around the corner from Marriott the City Cafe. They also have a three floor fish aquarium downtown. You can do it all in one day but two would be better. I wouldn't miss Chattanooga.

I live in South Knoxville and there are some great rods in the area w/o going to the touristy areas , unless you like the touristy areas. Most of the really great roads are sorta , backroads but still lined. Some really good rides up towards Sneedville,321 into Greeneville, Johnson city, Roan Mtn. But ...the best ways to some of these places is not on the major four lanes ( ugggh!). Still some really cool short ( 20-40 milers) rides in the K Town area if your here just a day or two. Martin Mill PK., Old Maryville Pk. Too many to name...If you gave me a map I could highlight, but it would probably have to be a state gazzateer to have some of these roads on it...

Been in that area a couple of times. I agree with the Cherohala Pkwy ride if the others are closed. Its a great ride. Near the end before you get into Talico Plains, look for a turn off to a 100ft waterfall. Check google and H.O.G. for suggestions. Have fun.
