Trying to plan a trip out to the Smokey's. Anyone have any input or places I need to do? Any input would be helpful!

There are quite a few threads out here with a lot of good info, however here is a list of great spots

Dragon's Tail,
Cherohala Skyway
Foothills Pkwy
Maggie Valley
Cherokee NC

The best place to stay is in my opinion is the Iron Horse Resort in Stecoah NC. http://www.ironhorsenc.com/

Find any 2-lane and ride it. Stay away from Pigeon FOrge and Gatlinburg unless you want major traffic and LARGE crowds. Smokey Mountain H-D is awesome in Maryville and just north of Deal's Gap. Lots of great riding in the area. Also, Mad Maps has a map of the expanded area with great rides lined out. Regular maps, GPS downloads or iphone app. I have the regular map of the area and it's great. www.madmaps.com

What is mentioned above and then any road down there is good, we stayed at Deals Gap resort and really enjoyed it. And make the run on ST rt 28 from cherokee to the dragon that is one nice road as well.

I believe i will be going back down this year really like that area. Takes me about 6hrs to get there maybe 7. I plan to do a weekend trip thur to sunday.

What all do you want to do while your there? We took the kids down for week and half saw alot then i went back down by myself with group of family and friends on the harleys for 4 days.

I like to stay out of the way, cheaper...Marion NC is nice...As far as Highways...28 from the SC border all the way to Fontana dam, 221, 21, 80, 20 9, Deal's gap at least once...on a weekday for sure...Cherohala Parkway, foothills parkway, Hwy 80 from Marion to the top at Mount Mitchell...180 the rattler....221 to Boone then north to Shady vslley Tn....Crap even Interstate 26 north to Johnson City is nice..Just look at the little gray roads on the Atlas....take them...if you have a GPS on the bike...i dare you to try to get lost....you will find the nicest roads....If you want to camp..Iron Horse seems nice...Also Blueridge motorcycle campground... Two wheel inn....

Any of the roads on the atlas that have the green dots beside it are good. I enjoyed the Cherohala as much as the dragon becasue I never had to worry about some azzclown coming at me in my lane. Look for the motorcycle playground website and they will list some really good roads also.

Good luck and good riding

Go to Wheels Thru Time in Maggie Valley. IMO, it is a "can't miss" for any HD rider.

everyone named most of the rides in the area. if you want to take in a concert check out the shed at smoky mountain hd. they have some great bands, plenty good food, and cold drinks. also on hwy 28 (aka hellbender) south of deals gap watch out for one corner in particular. it took several lives in cages and on bikes last year. it is marked with make shift local paint warning you. if it says 10mph in graffiti on the road, obey it please. have a great trip!
