I just got news that I have to relocate to Central Texas, 250 miles radius to Coperas Cove or Fort Hood. Im hoping to get some feedback on some areas that are decent living without high crime or outrageous taxes. Ive been given a short amount of time to make this happen so hoping some from this group can help with advise or experience in areas within that range. Appreciate any help with this and looking forward to becoming familiar with riding in central texas once we get all the important stuff figured out. Thanks.

It's the school district taxes that kill you in Texas. If you buy a house in a MUD, those taxes are usually pretty high too. Make sure and file for a homestead exemption once you've been in the house for a year as of Jan 1... that'll save you some $$$.
Use zillow.com to give you an idea of housing prices w/ taxes as a guide.
I'd be able to help if you were looking around Houston. Good luck... you'll love Texas!

Municipal Utility District... they provide water and sewer for hoods located outside of city or county services. They collect their own taxes on top of others... and they tend to be pretty high sometimes.
That is a big radius....I mean you could be in the vicinity of Austin, Dallas, Houston or San Antonio.....or you could be in Louisiana, Oklahoma, or even into Mexico. I'd say you probably need to narrow down that search area, and what exactly you are looking for.
I'm guessing you are Army, welcome to the neighborhood. Where did you end up settling? I'm in Gatesville, basically N Fort Hood or whatever they PC name changed it to these days..
I’m partial to Brownwood/Early since that’s home for me, even though I’m in west Texas right now working in the oilfield. It also has a close proximity to the Texas Hill Country and even though I haven’t looked at the real estate market there in several years, housing is relatively inexpensive, especially compared to the larger cities and the Permian Basin.
