Default Question about High flow Air?!?

My bike already has an exhaust, and my big sucker came today. The fuel management system I ordered wont be here for 2 more days...I'm impatient and wanting to install the big sucker now. Can I ride for 2 days without the management system or would I be risking damage?

Just wait 2 days.
Big sucker adds air.
Air w/o fuel = lean.
Lean = heat (and possible discolor of chrome exhaust pipes).
Lean = may also acquire a backfire/ burble on deceleration.

Will OEM fuel inj system automatically compensate for more air and compensate enough?
Some say yes/ some say no.
Again I'd wait so the air fuel can be optimized.

The OEM FI system will not compensate enough for the extra air. It can compensate for a high flow filter but when you throw a Big Sucker or a Stage 1 on the bike, you need to remap. Yeah you wont kill the bike but it will run like crap.

Just an air cleaner and pipes, the EFI will relearn in 50 miles. However most people rarely ever get out for them many miles.

Most people have no clue, and fuel managment retailers will never tell you their products are still EPA compliant. All it means is you will still be running "lean". If your tuner has not legal for street use on the box, only then will it fix this "lean" condition.

Slap the parts on and ride.

GnarlyBoy,

Two days without a tuner, O.M.G...highly unlikely that you'll do any irreversible damage, but why risk it? What's so important that you can't wait two days anyway? Unless your wheels turned square overnight you can still ride it with the stock intake, can't you?

In the current state of the bike, you've already been running it while it's lean [both stock from the factory, and with the addition of your exhaust], so ride the bike the way it is and wait the two days to do both the intake & tuner at the same time.

Why? [drumroll please] Because *patience is a virtue.

virˇtue

noun \ˈvər-(ˌ)chü\

: morally good behavior or character
: a good and moral quality
: the good result that comes from something

Trust me, once you have this patience thing downpat, you'll run less of a chance of screwing things up because you're in a hurry, and you'll find that you won't be spending your hard earned $$ on stupid $hit...you know, like all that stuff you just "had to have" [because of the $$ burning a hole in your pocket and the ideas you get here], that later ended up collecting dust in your garage, destined to go up for sale at a later date for a loss on eGay or CraigsList...

Us old bastages know all about this crap!

So, what kinda' fuel management are you getting?

=8^)

Air intake is only a thirty minute first timers install. Wait and do it all at once.
