Get a bump when on throttle...primary chain?
It runs great, but I do notice I get a bit too harsh of a thump (not audible, just the feel) when rolling on the throttle. Now obviously I need to check the primary chain play, which I'll do tomorrow, but as long as I'm addressing the issue I was wondering if anyone can tell me other possible causes for this issue.
Naturally the primary chain is the most likely cause, but just in case the issue remains I thought I'd look to you guys for some guidance as to what should be looked at next.
Naturally I'll check back in with the results tomorrow. I realize I may be annoying some on the forum by putting the cart before the horse but in the interest of saving time I wanted to have other avenues of investigation in my back pocket just in case. Sorry if I'm breaking protocol as I'm brand new here, and thanks for any suggestions.
I haven't checked the clutch yet... I will do so. I haven't checked rear-wheel alignment yet either. Belt tension is within specs.
I kind of figured that the free play is sort of normal for a 2001 Sportster, although this one has only 5,500 miles on it. If I'm gentle with the throttle there's no symptom... you just get that backlash thump if your a little more aggressive with the throttle. Overall shifting seems fine, although neutral to 1st gives a bit more of a clank than I'm comfortable with. Of course right now I'm learning what's normal and what things I should be concerned about.
As always, I appreciate you help.
