Figured it might be easier to ask in this old thread rather than start a new one....so I have a 2012 road king police...can I get new shocks and use the old shocks on a 2001 sportster 1200 custom?....I would think I can....any reason why I couldn't?.....does it change the ride height etc....any other adjustments needed besides possibly a spacer....ryan
Got some 12.5 inch shocks from the net, replaced the oil, installed with spacers (washers) & works well with ATF with seals conditioner, best upgrade to date. Single point access 0-10 lbs with small bicycle pump. Works well, much smoother.
Ryan, im not sure on the 2001 maybe someone else can help us out on that question!!
I'm not sure that there is an visual or dimensional difference between the early low pressure (up to 20psi) shocks and the later higher pressure ones. They are interchangeable across the Touring models, as early bike owners also buy later shocks to replace old tired ones.
A passing comment on the use of air lines, as it amuses me that some early posters should consider them to be a risk! I bought my Glide new in 1990 and used the stock shocks for over a decade with absolutely no problems at all. I only replaced them when I got myself a regular passenger, at long last!
