Default Progressive 412 or 430

Comparing the Progressive 412's to the 430's????????
2007 1200 XL 50 Solo Rider only 185 lbs

Any feedback if the 430's are worth the extra $80 each over the 412's, as far as ride quality goes? Less Harsh if that makes any sense.

Not able to afford Ohlins for this upgrade.

Any and all feedback appreciated!

Been riding for 30 years, but not sure I could detect the difference between the two, much less spring for more expensive brands, but the 12.5" 412s I put on my 09Nightster made such a difference in comfort and the same for the 12.5" 430s on my current 2013 custom. The 430 appearance really appealed to me, on paper they are better, they do not require a tool to adjust. I am 210, ride solo, had used heavy duty first time, but regular duty 430s, set on what would typically be a 2, (more on the plush end).

Thanks for the reply......I decided to go with the 430's...hey they cost more so they must be better
They had some nice features the 412's don't and FWIW Lifetime warranty too, as opposed to 1-year on the 412's.

That lifetime warranty is a great feature especially if you plan on keeping the bike. Make sure you keep you receipt on file! Progressive will want a copy if you return them to be redone. F.W.I.W. I put over 200,000 miles on the 440's,(88,000 on my 2000"C" and 120,000 on my 2006"R"), The "C's" were returned for rebuild, cost me postage one way. When the set off the "R" went back they were so clapped out,(took me a while to find the receipt), that they sent me a new pair of 444's to replace them. I have ADDD, (Advanced degenerative disc disease), and am bone on bone with L-4, L-5 and S-1, without good shocks my riding would be extremely limited.

I put 13in 412s on my 2014 Custom - huge improvement. Then I put Works Performance springs in the forks - another huge improvement. Unfortunately the springs highlighted the shortcomings in the 412s. I guess the moral of my story is buy the absolute best shock you can afford.

Thanks, I also ordered the Progressive Fork kit, hoping that after upgrading both ends, I won't feel my spine spike on those nasty road blemishes that appear sometimes out of nowhere. I'm nearing 60 and looking for all the tricks I can find to keep as comfortable as possible.
Going to replace the fork oil and use Belray 10w.....hope that's a good choice.

I have tried 7, 10, and 15 wt oil in my shocks and fine the 10wt to be the best. I have Progressive springs with a 3/4" pre-load.

The suspension changes I mentioned along with a Sundowner seat did the trick for me. I don't steer around man hole covers any more & have done a 300+ mile day on the Sporty in complete comfort. Should be fine for a young buck like you (I turn 63 next week).

Thanks for your feedback, I hope we both have quite a few years left to ride these things.
