Tried searching did not find the answer. I am replacing my gas tank on my 48 this weekend with a larger tank.
Question is when I swap out the gas tank should I get a new gasket for the fuel pump or can I use the same one? Bike is still fairly new 2013 with 5K miles.
When I got my 48's tank changed to a larger 3.3 I went ahead and got a new gasket. Being non-mechanical, its was explained that removing a gasket is like when you unseal a jar. So, I got it. I didn't need to get anything else for the swap. Now, whether or not the dealers reasoning is correct or faulty, I'll leave it to you gentlemen. I did it just to be on the safe side. I love the larger tank.
stock gasket is fine, just be carful when doing up the bolts holding the fuel pump up, do them in the correct sequence and not too tight. Service manual will be a good help for this one.
The vent line #5 in the pic, between the 2 rubber 90 elbows. With the larger tank the vent coming out of the tank is further back. The line is made out of plastic so use a sharp razor to cut it to size.
