Im looking at getting a new 48, and I ordered it already without the remote security because I was told it does not give you keyless start. The dealership told me I would still need to use a key to turn on my bike, is this accurate? I keep reading mixed messages.

I have the security system with my keyless ignition on my 72. Hard to believe it would be different with the 48.
Just install an all weather toggle switch hidden under the tank or by the switch and you won't need a key. Easier to steal but tuck it away somewhere people won't see it.
I may have to call the dealer tomorrow and see if they can add the security system then if your saying on your 72 you can push button start it.... Im irritated now lol
Correct, the dealer I was working with did not have any remote security 2014+ sportster models and was not positive on the details. So I had them call another dealer, and they confirmed it would not have push button start if I ordered it with the security system.... They said it wouldnt be in until April 1st, so hoping I can still edit it.
hmm, well guess you will see what you get. technically all 2014+ sportsters are push button start. I have only seen models with factory installed security systems have a keyless ignition. Just started a thread here about what I did with mine. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...on-option.html
Thanks, is there anywhere on the harley website that actually says it is Keyless ignition with push button start? I cant find it on the harley website, when I go to build it, it just says keyless security.
The security unit sold by HD online says that you turn the key on, then the fob allows the bike to start if it is within proximity. It also says to turn off the key before walking away to arm the system. This is why I like Airframer's mod.
Maybe the factory installed version uses a barrel key like a Big Twin. On those bikes, the key just locks the ignition and prevents it from turning. (Like Airframer's mod.)
