Default Gas Tank

2007 nightster EFI

So I bought a new raw tank. Im doing a makeover on the bike new fenders complete paint job. I hear people say seal it use this sealer use that sealer dont use a sealer it goes on and on.

I have two repair shops in my area I called one and the secretary/wife took my call about pressure testing possible sealer and he didn't return my call.

The other one sounded promising CAPE Cod Choppers I told him I had a new tank for my EFI 07 and wanted to seal n test it. He told me "I dont seal them here because of the chemicals but, best place to start is pressure testing it".

So I drive there and drop it off.
Two weeks go by and I give him a call ...hey im just checking how things are going with the tank " Uh I didn't know it didn't have to plate on the bottom I cant do anything with that. I say well you should have called me I suppose I could have taken mine out and brought it down.. He replies ugh yea well It slipped my mind with a attitude. I then tell him Ill come pick the tank up then.. I drive the 30 miles on my day off place opens @ 10 he rolls in at 11ish but Im 30 miles from my house so I had to wait.

I get in there and I say couldn't you have just made a plate? "ugh yea but that would have cost you more money." Well if you had called me I probably would have said ok Instead you get no money and took my tank and left.

I know long way to get to the question but, If I fill the tank with gas no one will weld it if it does leak. I dont want to paint it if its a leek er . Do dealers pressure test?
I hear nothing but horror stories with sealers any advice here as you can tell by my rant Im at wits end.

It is my understanding the sealer is not to prevent a leak, but it is to stop corrosion, gas contains water which over time can rust the inside of the tank causing premature damage to the tank not to mention rust mixed with the fuel can cause premature damage to your motor. Sealing the inside of the tank helps to prevent this from happening.

Water will condense out of the atmosphere on the inside of a part full gas tank, which is probably where most of it comes from, rather than the fuel. I had a couple of BMWs with large tanks and they did it regularly, fortunately it was easy to drain the water every few months.

Inquire at your local radiator shop about coating the inside.
I keep reading (on the internet) horror stories about Kreem and Ethanol gas. I have no personal experience with the product.
