I'm about to pull the trigger on the DK light but I don't know if I can justify $70 shipped. I know it'll work though if I get theirs.
I am not familiar with that Cree model. It is significantly different in design than the one we are selling, but can't tell you if it's as good, better, or not as good. We have been/still are testing some Cree running lights (not headlights) and have been happy with them.

Yes, the HD LED we compared to above is the HD Daymaker Headlight.

The actual LED puts out very little heat, but the chip(s) that are upstream of the LED's are very small, so even though it is much less wattage (power) going thru them than a typical filament light, relatively, it is a lot of wattage going thru some very small components. Those components need to be cooled down, thus the fan.

Yes, the Daymaker is amazing, as it should be for $400 - $500+. The DK LED is the closest we've seen to the Daymaker for under $75.

We will have some photo's of the DK LED in some Softail headlight buckets and some Touring buckets soon. The pics we've published are in a 5 3/4" Sportster Bucket. They are even better in the 7" bucket that you find most Daymakers (like the one above) installed in.

Do the DK LEDs fit in the 48s headlamps without issues? Does the back stick out? Any modifications needed?

Thanks.

I don't want to speak for DK, but I can almost guarantee that they wouldn't sell it if it wasn't a perfect fit.

Yes, they fit. The pictures at this LINK were taken with the LED bulb in a 48 headlight bucket.

"Everything is contained in the bucket, no cutting of wires, no external ballast."

As noted in the description:
5 3/4" headlights, like found on the Sportster & most Dyna Models, may require an extra 5 minutes work to remove the plastic connector case. It is still plug-n-play, just without the bulky plastic. Instructions & pictures included.

So the total install, start to finish is 10-15 minutes.

I think i'll be ordering the DK LED after consideration. My night time driving or darkness driving is relatively small i.e. around 10-15 minutes a day on my work commute in the morning. Thats 5 miles of country road and 5 miles of city driving roughly.

I'd like to see the profit margin that HD makes on a Daymaker its probably 300% plus. One negative on the LED is its focused beam. As important as it is for me to see as far ahead as possible its also very important for my high beam to project way off the road sides so i can see those pesky critters, deer eyes reflecting on the road side as well.

So the question is the HD Daymaker $330 dollars better than what DK Customs is offering. The distinct answer is no. Ordering my DK LED right now.
