I had that problem this morning,I was backing my Nightster out of the garage and noticed the neutral light wasn't on. I kicked it down into first and then back up into neutral and it stayed on. I'll be keeping my eye on it to see if it happens again.
Mine (2004 883XL) did the same thing the other day! I also kicked it down into first and then back up to neutral and the light came on.
This has only happened to me once out of the countless times that I've put it into neutral. Most likely just an issue with the switch just barley being on the edge of being tripped.
actually, i have an 07 883 and mine did the same thing. everyone else is describing a temporary situation, but it sounds like 37sportster has no light at all. as i said, the exact same thing happened to me. started it up one morning and no neutral light.
so, took it to the dealer and had them replace it. warrenty covered it, so all it took was about 2 hours of my time. perhaps this is a wider problem with the 07 sportsters.
Mine worked fine for a long time but I've noticed that it seems to stop working after the bike has been warmed up for a little while. After I've ridden for a while I can find neutral, but the light won't come on at all. If I leave the bike sit for a while and start it back up it seems to work fine. Don't know what might cause this, but I've been dealing with it.
I just bought mine used a couple of weeks ago with only 5,000 miles and it does exactly the same. Did you ever figure out the problem?

If your N light is squirrelly its likely a short in the N switch and the switch needs to be replaced. I have a 09 1200. The lights under the instrument cluster is an LED strip not a bulb. Theres a way to figure out what exactly the problem is by grounding the switch but if you dont have a lift or the proper tools its tough. You have to take off the pipes and the clutch cover, drop the pulley etc. go on You Tube and check out Two Wheel Rocco. I brought my bike into the shop . It took 1.5 hours to replace the switch which cost about $23. Including labor it came to $160... well worth it at least for me.
