Need guidance on Slow jet and Main Jet combos that people with similar combo are using.
03 883 converted to 1200. 9.5:1 compression. Screaming Eagle bolt in cams. Stage one air cleaner 1200 ign module SE II slip-ons with Big City Thunder Baffles.
CV carb with Yost power tube. Installed the master kit. Currently using a 48 slow jet with a 195 main. Overall the bike runs great. Lots of power, good light and heavy acceleration and no pops or bucking on deceleration.
The only real issue the bike is having is that if the idle speed is too low the bike seems to be loading up and will stall. With the idle raised a bit it is ok. Still seems rich however. Also at a steady crusie about 30mph in 3rd or 4th gear the bike almost feels like it is missing. It will almost surge a bit, like it only wants to accel or decel, it is slight but still annoying. I need to get this worked out. Any ideas are appreciated.
It sounds like you are getting too much gas. Go down on one of the jets and see what that does. I would start with the 195 first. Raise your idle adjustment screw also.
I figured I'd give a heads up now that it is corrected. I went down on the main and the slow jet.
When I pulled the plugs they were very carboned up. Went to a 46 slow and 185 main and things got much better. So I adjusted down again. Went back to the stock slow jet a 45, and main at 175. The bike is running very nice. Seems I way overshot the jetting the first time out.
