Default tall boy set up for low concise model

Name is John and I will be taking delivery in a week(s) or so when my son arrives having done the leg work.
I am 6'1", 185 lbs. 62 years old, with a bad lower back.
I am receiving a 2005 XL883l with 11k miles; only non-stock items are drag pipes and pillion inclusive seat. Also the bike has outward control set up.
I have no idea what the best set up for me will be. I do know I won't be able to handle the stock bars, nor the solo seat which is being sent as well. Need my hands to run straight across, also know the stock solo is lightweight (thin).
Price of Mustang praised solo seat with backrest made me gag on my oatmeal.
This bike will be exclusively used for country rides and/or speed runs (speed run being a misnomer for having ridden Kawasakis during my early and late times, from ninja 250 to ninja 636.)
Anyway I'm babbling with no questions.
Just need ideas on how best to set up bike for my age, physical limitations etc.?
One thing I can say is I have never been a passenger nor allowed one. Neither will change. Thanks for any starting point(s) or questions.

I have a Low as well. Your stock shocks have got to go. Preferably in favor of longer shocks. Raise the front as well while you're at it. At 6+ feet tall, you can afford to, without worrying about being able to reach the ground.

Ditto on replacing the shocks. You can get some touring take off air shocks on ebay for around $100 and it will be Much better for your lower back.
