My brother who is in the photo got killed on this sportster in 1996 and until now the bike was kept in my fathers house until 2003 and in my garage since then. Well I have decided to have the bike put back together and I am wondering if anyone knows of a place that I can buy the tank decals for it like the one pictured. it is a 1996 1200 sportster and I have looked for the decal all over the net with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
It's a bit difficult to make out the tank emblem from your picture. According to the 1996 parts manual, there were 4 emblems used on the 1200 in 1996 (see below). Unfortunately, only one of the 4 is still listed. As best as I can tell, you're looking for item 11 wich is not listed in the parts list any longer, only item 23 remains.
Sorry about the picture quality. It was the only one that I had. I am not sure where the original tank is for it. My father had already bought a replacement tank for it and thanks for the info. As far as I can tell. This is the decal but unfortunately it's too high http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-David...2d8a2a&vxp=mtr
I have done hours of searching and it seems like it's the only one out there. I may have to do a different emblem.
agree- not an easy part to find. I tried to find it too and struck out- the MoCo has so many choices for tank badges. Find another one that you like- you have other choices if you want to stay with the '96, or you can go with a diff one. I pulled mine when I got the bike and changed them to ones I liked better...
