Default speedometer issues

Have recently purchased my wife a 2007 Sportster 883C. It only has 7000 miles but when I hit the switch on the back of the speedometer it does not change to the trip meter or anything. Curious if this is a common problem. Also if anyone has had any experience with this. Should I replace the switch or is it in the speedometer. Just want to try to get the fixed before the wife runs out of gas. Also it says there is a fuel Guage in the speedometer also. Is this just the dummy light?

It's been a little while since did anything with my speedometer. If I remember correctly the button has a wire & connector on the back of the actual gauge. The connector may not be properly seated or the wire may be damaged. It may be worth a try at removing the gauge and checking it.
I didn't think the "C" had a fuel gauge stock. If you have a single gauge, tach & digital speedo, that has a fuel gauge. Although, I believe on the '07 it requires an additional sensor of some sort. The tach I'm referring to is a Harley Accessory and would have been put on by the previous owner. That could explain the button issue too.

Yea, the button is a separate switch, connected by a pig tail. It can be replaced on its own. Pull the boot off, unscrew the little nut thing and pop the bottom plate off the speedo and you'll see how it works.

As for fuel gauge, don't think so. Just the low fuel light at 1 gallon left.

Yeah I think it is just a dummy light. I will pull the speedometer and see if I see any wires messed up. Hoping it's just a bad wire or a plug unplugged.
